The University of Maryland Radiation Oncology Center at Union Hospital: Advanced Cancer Treatment Close to Home
When cancer strikes, access to the latest treatments can save lives. The University of Maryland Radiation Oncology Center at Union Hospital brings some of the most advanced radiation therapies to Cecil County. The center is made possible by our partnership with the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS).
Radiation oncologists use radiation to kill cancer cells and stop it from spreading to healthy tissue. Nearly 60 percent of all patients with cancer receive radiation therapy as part of their treatment. It can be used to shrink or eliminate tumors before or in place of surgery. Sometimes radiation therapy is used after surgery to reduce the chances of cancer coming back.
